Conductor Emeritus

Hailed by New Yorker music critic Andrew Porter as "that Dean of choral conductors," Daniel Moe is an important eudcational force in conducting and choral literature, having developed distinguished graduate programs in these disciplines at the University of Iowa.  He served as Professor of Music at Oberlin College Conservatory of Music until 1992. 


During forty years of choral conducting, Dr. Moe has conducted virtually every major choral-orchestral work in the repertoire. from J.S. Bach's  Passion According to St. John to Benjamin Britten's War Requiem. He has led performances in Carnegie Hall, Town Hall and Lincoln Center in New York City, as well as Washington's Kennedy Center and many university performance halls.  In 2001, Dr. Moe led Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass at Rosenberg Castle near Vienna, Austria.
 
Daniel Moe's published works include a commission for the 1976 inauguration of John D. Rockefeller IV as President of West Virginia Weslyan College: Exhortations from Proverbs. He received an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Gustavus Adolphus College, in which he was cited for his "creative leadership in the field of choral music."  In 1993, his Cantata of Peace was performed in Denver, Colorado, at a ceremony marking the visit of Pope John Paul II.
 
Dr. Moe has received the 1974 Canticum Novum award from Wittenberg University, an Honorary Citation from the Bruckner Society of America, the McGowen Memorial Award and a fellowship from the Danforth Foundation.  In 1993, his alma mater, Minnesota's Concordia College, presented him with an honorary doctorate. During the 1994-1995 academic year, he accepted an appointment as sabbatical replacement at Concordia College in Moorehead, Minnesota, where he conducted the Concordia College Choir.  In 2002, Dr. Moe served as Visiting Professor in choral music at Boston University.
 
Daniel Moe is currently Composer in Residence at Church of the Redeemer and an Associate Adjunct Professor of Music at New College, both in Sarasota, Florida.  He holds a B.A. degree from Concordia College, an M.A. from the University of Washington and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.  He has pursued additional studies at the Kirchenmusikshchule of Hanover, Germany, and at the Aspen School of Music.
